Beauty (Day 3)

Today's Quote

“Pretty is something you're born with. But beautiful, that's an equal opportunity adjective.”

Today's Challenge

Make a list of 10 positive things you like about yourself that have nothing to do with your appearance--and 10 positive things you like about your appearance.

Inner:

  1. I am forgiving.
  2. I love learning - especially gospel learning.
  3. I am a leader.
  4. I try hard.
  5. I am optimistic.
  6. I am an accomplished knitter.
  7. I am discerning.
  8. I am good with children.
  9. I have good interior design sense.
  10. I do my best to live in the Spirit.
Outer:
  1. I like my Eyes
  2. And my hands
  3. And my nails (finger & toe)
  4. And my eyelashes
  5. I tan easily and rarely burn.
  6. I have soft hair.
  7. I think my lips are a nice size and shape.
  8. I like my ears.
  9. I have a dimple in my cheek and I like it.
  10. My teeth are naturally straight enough that I never needed braces.
WHY:    Your perception of yourself includes the physical. We won’t pretend it’s not important--physical factors are part of the mortal world we live in. We've challenged  you to make two lists because both your inner and outer beauty affect you--and there will be times you feel insecure about both. Refer back to your lists and remember the positive.

JOURNAL: Was it easier to come up with things you like about yourself, or things about your appearance?

It was incredibly hard to come up with items on both lists, but the appearance list was definitely more difficult. This has been a hard year on my self esteem. I don't have time to write about it a lot right now - but I have realized that one of the reasons is that I was wrapping too much of my self esteem up in what I DO and not who I AM. Realizing this has helped tremendously and I think I am on the right path.
